ROME (CNS) -- A misunderstanding of the Second Vatican Council has led some Catholics to think that eucharistic adoration and Corpus Christi processions are pietistic practices that pale in importance to the celebration of Mass, Pope Benedict XVI said.

One of the most powerful demonstrations of Catholic culture and identity in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain takes place on Thursday in the capital city.

It is the annual Corpus Christi celebrations with the major highlight being the large procession with the Blessed Sacrament. This display of Catholic culture has been one of the high points in the Church’s annual calendar and dates back many decades.

Today our Church commemorates Pentecost, the beginning of the mission of the Church in the world. “The Church was made manifest to the world on the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit” (Catechism, 1076).
